THE MAIL ART OF SANDRO RINALDI
As part of the fifth edition of the International Fair of Contemporary Art Affordable Art Fair Milano (19- March 22, 2015, Superstudio Più) you can learn all about the work of mail art signed by the artist Sandro Rinaldi and some of his unpublished compositions performed on paper crumpled over a collage of 1990. Observer attentive, quick, discreet of his time but also effective narrator of bygone eras, Rinaldi exhibited her paintings and drawings on envelopes, cards, letters, post cards and stamps recovered.
In the 10 works on show in Milan, the watercolor technique alternates with that of collage and pliage: the pure pigment faded and dissolved in water, blends perfectly with the overlap of the cards, transforming a useful and practical as that of letter, in a message hidden under a sort of palimpsest wall created by time and by the vision of the artist.
In his work are repeated often places dear to the artist, such as Barcelona and Amsterdam: a kind of muse for Sandro Rinaldi, immortalized in fact year after year in many of the same views always, loved isolated. The media where he works are never "new" "I love to give new life to things forgotten or become useless - says Rinaldi - is my way of communicating where I want to be and with whom”. A sort of diary itinerant, who holds contacts alive and echoes of emotions and memories.
With the work of Sandro Rinaldi, in Mail Art, already influenced by the Futurists and Dadaists and then encoded by Fluxus, extra-artistic elements are raised to the level of artistry by the action of the artist, through a deployment of traits extremely graphic and pictorial personal, sometimes abstract, sometimes vaguely figurative.
The factor that most of all draws a boundary line from the previous admirers of Mail Art is the conveyance, by the same Rinaldi, small works through the network: this operation, which is a tireless pioneer, nowadays often considered trivial if not inevitable, sheds new light on the possible future experimentation and allows the matching of multiply indefinitely and transformed from private to public, from confidential to manifest.
